George M. Halasz Excellence in Education Scholarship (GMH EES)
In honor of the retirement of George M. Halasz, this scholarship has been newly established to award up to $2,500 annually to assist and encourage students aspiring to enter the field of court reporting. This scholarship will be awarded at the discretion of the VCRF Scholarship Committee and will be presented each March at the Virginia Court Reporters Association's convention or education day.

George M. Halasz founded Halasz Reporting & Video in 1983 and over a 40+ year career grew that agency into Virginia's premier court reporting firm. A lifelong Virginia resident, George was born in Alexandria to parents who ran their own court reporting firm. After graduating from the College of William & Mary in 1976, George settled in Richmond, Virginia, with his wife, Attorney Michelle Halasz. In Richmond, George worked as a freelance reporter before founding his own company. Achieving the certifications of Registered Professional Reporter (1980), Registered Merit Reporter (1982), and Registered Diplomate Reporter (1999), George embodies the idea of continually striving to improve and develop your professional skills. Throughout his career, he helped young reporters enter the working world and encouraged them to be advocates for the reporting industry.

After over 40 years as a court reporter, business owner, and mentor, George officially retired in 2025. In appreciation of his achievements, Halasz Reporting & Video has founded the Excellence in Education Scholarship to further the growth of the court reporting field.
